The City Form Lab teamed up with Lih Jing Construction company in Taiwan to build a street art installation near one of Lih Jing’s developments in Kaoshiung. The structure explores the mathematical elegance of Enneper’s minimal surface, developing the smallest possible surface area between the bounding curves. The work builds on City Form Lab’s research into highly economical construction of complex double-curvature shell structures. This is made possible by relying on standardized flat-sheet materials, limiting all fabrication to only two-dimensional cutting and relying on structural folding to achieve desired geometric forms.
